No Sorrow Added
June is here and I can’t believe that it has been over 50 years that I have served the Lord! What a joy these years have been! In fact, there is no way that I can begin to count, let alone tell you of all the great blessings that I have experienced from serving the Lord! That thought takes me to this scripture.
The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.
Proverbs 10:22
Many of you have stood at the altar with the love of your life, and said, I will remain with you in sickness and in health, in joy or sorrow, etc. What you were acknowledging that day was this: Sooner or later, you would face financial hardship, sickness, and sorrow together because you said, “I will.” And yes, you would do it all over again because your life has been enriched by the love you have shared. Sinner or Christian, we will be touched by heartache, sorrow, and pain. Let’s examine Proverbs 10:22 in more detail.
Maketh Rich
This concept is fairly easy to understand. Salvation alone is a blessing that enriches our lives! Believing every word and promise in the Bible enriches our lives. Then, there are the blessings that He loads us with daily! We lack for nothing! We are rich in grace, mercy, love, joy, and peace! Taking it a step further, because we have sought the kingdom of God first, all of these things (natural things) will also be added to us!
Addeth No Sorrow
Now, this one can be a little hard to understand because we are often touched by disappointment, sorrow, and pain. But Scripture didn’t say that in this life, God would take away all sorrow. In fact, Jesus told us that in this life, we would have tribulations and pain. Everything that life enriches us with comes with a side effect. Unfortunately, it adds sorrow with it. Ask the wealthiest person on earth if riches have removed all sorrow from them. Ask the most famous person if fame has removed all sorrow. Ask the one who appears to have the most pleasure-filled life, if those pleasures have removed all sorrow from them. Each of these would have the same answer, “No! In fact, these things have added sorrow to my life.”
Rich In Blessings
The promise that the Lord gave to us was this: the blessings of the Lord it maketh rich but there is no sorrow added with it! My! Oh my! Forgiveness from sin, no sorrow added! Redemption, no sorrow added! Joy, no sorrow added! Peace, no sorrow added! Comfort, no sorrow added! Walking hand in hand with our Lord, no sorrow added. Every need supplied, no sorrow added! Daily loaded with the blessings of God, yet no sorrow added!
In my 50-plus years of serving the Lord, I have suffered loss. My heart was broken the day that my dad crossed chilly Jordan. Life brought me sorrow. But when Daddy stepped onto the sunny banks of Heaven’s shore and the presence of the Great Shepherd filled the room, my life was enriched, with no sorrow added!
Blessings Through Obedience
Many of you have prayed for my sister, Sheila (please continue to do so). Sometime ago, she had a terrible sore on her only foot. She had lost her right foot in 2021, and now it looked as though she would lose her left foot. We were home, with plans to leave the next morning, and I lay in bed that night, begging God to heal her. It was tearing me apart to think of leaving because I didn’t know what she and my mom might face. But, as I was drifting off to sleep, the Lord spoke to me and said, “Go! Doubting nothing!” I rose up and with tears flowing down my face, I answered, “I will!” Because of obedience, the Lord began to pour out His blessings, and Sheila’s foot has completely healed! The Lord continues to bless, help, provide, and strengthen my mom and Sheila. Once again, He enriched my life with no sorrow added!
My friends, I encourage you to sit down and begin counting your blessings! Without a doubt, you will find that the blessings of the Lord maketh rich, with no sorrow added!
