Grandma’s Testimony
My maternal Grandmother, Ruby Blythe, was born in 1934 to Walter and Louise Morris. Grandma’s parents did not attend church, and her father suffered from alcohol addiction. (Thankfully, her mother later became a Christian, and her father accepted the Lord in his final years.)
When my Grandma was a little girl, her parents met a wonderful Christian family who began taking her and her siblings to church. During that time, precious seeds were sown in the children’s hearts, and those seeds are still bearing fruit today!
Grandma surrendered her life to the Lord along with Grandpa one year after their marriage. As they continued to dedicate themselves to God, Grandpa became a deacon in the church, and Grandma began serving as the secretary.
Battle of Cancer
In 1973, a small skin cancer appeared on the side of Grandma’s nose, close to her eye. As it grew, she felt she should trust the Lord for her healing. The church prayed and fasted on her behalf, including small school children.
Many unbelievers didn’t understand why she wouldn’t go to the doctor, and hurtful things were spoken. But Grandma knew God was her Healer, and she stood firmly on many scriptures, especially this passage from Hebrews:
“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for,
the evidence of things not seen.” Hebrews 11:1.
Five challenging years passed until one night, a visiting evangelist shared his testimony of healing. He, too, had suffered from cancer on his face, but God gloriously healed him.
The preacher asked Grandma to come forward for prayer, and the church gathered around. The anointing of the Lord came upon the evangelist, and he commanded Grandma to be healed in the name of Jesus! She received assurance of her healing as God gave her faith to believe!
Trial of Faith
Within a few days, Grandma began feeling some pain that she hadn’t experienced before, and the devil came as a thief. He filled her mind with discouragement, telling her that she wasn’t truly healed. But she held onto faith, knowing what God had done!
Over the next four years, the cancer continued to get smaller and smaller. Although it didn’t disappear immediately, Grandma knew she was experiencing a miracle. In 1982, the Lord took the cancer away completely.
Some people may not understand why her trial lasted for nine years, but God makes no mistakes. You see, several healings in our family’s ministry have come gradually. Only God knows how often we’ve referenced Grandma’s healing and how her faith has strengthened our faith!
I pray her testimony also helps you to understand that if God has spoken, He will bring it to pass! Keep believing, and don’t let go of faith!
